About Irises

Van Gogh painted this vase of Irises in 1890. Purple-blue flowers fill the upper part of a still life set against a light background. This Metropolitan Museum painting is different from the 1889 garden scene called Irises at the Getty. The shared title describes two distinct works, so the date and collection matter when choosing a download.

Look closely

Follow the curving stems upward from the vase. Compare the dense flower heads with the simpler background and tabletop.
