About The Garden of Earthly Delights

Hieronymus Bosch's The Garden of Earthly Delights is a triptych: three painted panels that form a larger composition. A garden, a crowded central world and a dark, unsettling right panel present radically different settings. Its fantastic creatures and densely arranged figures invite slow examination. This reproduction shows the open triptych in the Prado's collection, rather than an isolated detail.

Look closely

Compare the palettes and landscapes across the three panels before enlarging individual details. Notice how repeated fruit, animals and human figures connect the scenes while their moods change.
