About The Kiss

Klimt's The Kiss of around 1907–1909 places an embracing couple within a richly patterned golden field. Geometric motifs, flowers and curved forms flatten the setting while the faces and hands remain intimate and recognizable. The painting belongs to the Belvedere in Vienna. This reproduction is a view of the complete composition.

Look closely

Compare the rectangular patterns around one figure with the rounded motifs around the other. Look at how the small patch of flowers supports the embracing pair.
